It seems many of you are planning to see (or have already gone to see) the movie 300, so I thought I’d slap together some supplementary information, if you’d like to check out some of the history behind the movie.
There’s nothing better than reading ancient history from ancient historians (I always say), so here are the results of my labors: 300 History (945KB PDF)— almost 30 pages of bits about the battle of Thermopylae from Herodotus, Diodorus, and our old friend Plutarch, personally selected and annotated by yours truly! 😉
Don’t be overwhelmed by the length, feel free to skim, and jump around, if you decide to take a look at it. Read it before you see the movie (it won’t spoil anything), after you see the movie (you’ll find some cool details, correspondences, and differences), or be extra adventurous and read it without seeing the movie at all, even! 😛
