Check out WordCount, a slick graphical representation of the frequency of word usage in English. From the web site:
WordCount™ is an artistic experiment in the way we use language. It presents the 86,800 most frequently used English words, ranked in order of commonality. Each word is scaled to reflect its frequency relative to the words that precede and follow it, giving a visual barometer of relevance. The larger the word, the more we use it. The smaller the word, the more uncommon it is.
Click on the grey bar at the bottom to move around the list quickly, or search for your vocabulary words that “no one ever uses,” and see where they really rank! 😀
You also might like to take a look at their conspiracy page, that lists straaaaaaange and no doubt significant groupings of words found within the list by intrepid observers! :ponder:
